Takeaway.com expands to Asia

October 2013

Takeaway.com announced it has acquired Vietnammm.com, Vietnam’s largest food delivery website.

Founder and CEO Jitse Groen is thrilled with the expansion. "We are still accelerating our growth and feel Asia offers attractive expansion opportunities." Jochem Lisser, a Dutch national, will head up the operation in Ho Chi Minh City.

Takeaway.com is one of the largest food delivery websites in the world, processing well over 1 million orders per month for almost 25.000 restaurants in eight countries. Its top brands are Lieferservice.deThuisbezorgd.nl, Pizza.be and Lieferservice.at. Vietnam is the first market outside of Europe where Takeaway.com has started operations.

Takeaway.com processes over Eur 220M gross order value on an annualized basis. It is one of the largest food delivery websites in the world. The company is currently growing at a rate of over 75% year on year.

Having been founded in Holland, Takeaway.com is especially strong in the Benelux region and achievies the best profit margins in the industry. This allows Takeaway.com to invest in other parts of the world. Groen: “We are a lean and mean company and we believe that our success has been driven by operational excellence and capital efficiency.”

Takeaway.com will move Vietnammm.com to its own platform in order to let the Vietnamese site take advantage of its iPhone, Android, Windows 8 and Windows Phone apps. It will also invest in local marketing and personnel to scale up the business.
